Of oceans features and beams

Hello

In the midst of studying oceanography. it's interesting and i'm learning a lot. Okay well i'm saying its interesting. I've already learned a lot. For instance, the word Bathymetry means the study of the oceans depths. There are four ways to meausre. The first way is through altimetry and that is studying the altitudes using satllites. The second way is through seismic reflection and that penetrates deep into the ocean floor. The third way is through echo sounding and that uses one beam to go to the ocean floor and back. The third way is sidescan sonar and that uses several beams to get to the ocean floor. The fourth way is through Seismic refraction and that uses sound waves that bend and they can acutally penetrate the earth's crust. It's the most efficiant way. The other thing I am learning is that there are three provinces in the ocean. The first one is the contiential margin and it's features consist of the shelf, slope, break and rise. The second one is the Deep Sea and its features consist of the abyssal plains, Abyssal hills, geyots (pronounced geeots) seamunts and trenches. The third is the Mid-ocean ridges and that one consists of rift valleys, transform faults and fractures.

Okay ladies and gentleman that was done without any notes. Said from memory. Off to go put more info in this tiny brain of mine. Until next time.
